Allow Aegisrook's permissions

Which permissions Aegisrook asks for, what each one is for, what happens if you say no, and where to change them later.

  5. Change a permission later

Aegisrook needs four permissions for its main checks: notifications, Full Disk Access, the network filter (its firewall) and opening at login. Three more are asked for only if you turn on the feature that uses them. Everything Aegisrook reads stays on your Mac.

Needed for the main checks

Permission What it’s for If you say no
Notifications So you see an alert the moment something happens Alerts appear only inside Aegisrook, so you could miss one
Full Disk Access To read which apps can use your camera, screen, keyboard and files, and to check new downloads for known malware. macOS keeps these lists locked away Those checks show “needs access” instead of results
Network filter (the firewall) To ask you before an app goes online, and to show where your apps connect Aegisrook still lists apps that are online, but can’t ask about or block a connection
Open at login So Aegisrook is checking from the moment you log in It only checks while you have it open

Only if you turn on the feature

Permission Asked for when you turn on
Bluetooth Watch for unknown AirTags
Camera Away Mode’s photo of whoever opens your Mac
Your administrator password Removing a startup item that runs for every account on the Mac. macOS asks each time

Turn on Full Disk Access

  1. In Aegisrook’s setup list, click Open Full Disk Access. Or open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access.
  2. Turn on Aegisrook in the list. If it isn’t listed, click the Add button (+) and choose Aegisrook from your Applications folder.
  3. macOS says Aegisrook won’t have full disk access until it quits. Click Quit & Reopen. Setup comes back at the same step.

Keep alerts on screen

macOS shows notifications as banners that slide away after a few seconds. To make Aegisrook’s warnings stay until you’ve read them:

  1. Open System Settings › Notifications › Aegisrook. The Open Notification Settings button in the setup list goes straight there.
  2. Set the alert style to Persistent (called Alerts on macOS 14).

Change a permission later

  • Full Disk Access, Bluetooth and Camera: System Settings › Privacy & Security
  • Notifications: System Settings › Notifications › Aegisrook
  • Open at login: Open Aegisrook at login in Aegisrook’s Settings, or System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions
  • The firewall: System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions, under Network Extensions. Turn on the firewall shows the steps.
