With its window closed, Aegisrook normally averages about 2% of one processor core and uses about 80–90 MB of memory. It’s busier for a few minutes after it opens, and for a moment during its scheduled scans. If it stays high for longer, save diagnostics and contact us.
What’s normal
| When | What to expect |
|---|---|
| The first few minutes after opening | Higher: it checks every program, permission and startup item once |
| Window closed | About 2% of one core on average, 80–90 MB of memory |
| Window open | About 3–4% of one core |
| Every few minutes | A short spike: permissions are checked every 5 minutes, startup items every 15 |
| During a virus scan | Higher until the scan finishes, especially with ClamAV |
These were measured on a MacBook Pro with an M1 Pro chip, and don’t include the firewall, which runs as a separate process. Older Macs may show higher percentages for the same work.
Ways to bring it down
- Close the window. Aegisrook keeps protecting your Mac with it closed, and does less work.
- Let a scan finish. Virus Scan and ClamAV use more while they run.
If it stays high
- Note what you were doing and roughly how long it’s been high.
- Choose Help › Save Diagnostics… in the menu bar and save the file.
- Contact us and choose Help using the app. We’ll ask for the file if we need it.
