Use Away Mode

Turn on Away Mode before you leave your Mac in a hotel, café or office. If someone opens it, unplugs it or connects a USB device, Aegisrook can sound an alarm, take a photo and alert your phone.

Turn on Away Mode before you walk away from your Mac. If someone opens or unlocks it, unplugs the charger or connects a USB device, Aegisrook records it and can sound an alarm, take a photo and send an alert to your phone.

Turn it on

Open Away Mode and click Turn On, or choose Away Mode from Aegisrook’s menu bar icon. To turn it on automatically, turn on Turn on when Mac goes to sleep. Start watching sets how soon it starts, from Immediately to After 1 Minute.

With Require Touch ID or password to turn off on (it is unless you change it), nobody can turn Away Mode off, or quit Aegisrook, without your fingerprint or password. Its settings are locked while it’s on.

What it watches

  • Opening the lid or waking your Mac
  • Unlocking your Mac
  • Unplugging the charger (you can turn this one off)
  • Connecting a new USB device or keyboard

What it can do

These are in the Alarm & Phone tab.

  • Sound an alarm, with the sound and volume you choose. Click Test to hear it. It can keep ringing until Away Mode is turned off, and set the volume to maximum.
  • Take a photo with the camera of whoever opened your Mac. macOS asks for camera access when you turn this on.
  • Send alerts to phone. See Get alerts on your phone.

To stop a ringing alarm, click Stop Alarm on the Away Mode page or in the menu bar icon’s menu. This turns Away Mode off, so it asks for Touch ID or your password if that’s required.

See what happened

When you come back, open the Activity & Devices tab. While You Were Away lists everything Aegisrook recorded, with any photos. Click Clear to empty the list.
